Description

Widows Cottage is an 18th century detached stone cottage furnished and decorated in a traditional style.  Accessed up a steep gravelled track, the cottage nestles on a hill side with spectacular views overlooking the Tyne Valley across to the North Pennines.  Anyone seeking a romantic getaway should look no further, since it would be hard to beat the peace and tranquillity surrounding this hidden gem.  There are plenty of walks and trails to suit all abilities including a footpath almost at the cottage door onto the Pennine Way leading down into Alston. Renowned for being the highest market town in England, Alston offers a good range of shops and pubs as well as the South Tynedale Steam Railway and the lead mining heritage centre.  This location is excellent for visiting both Hadrian's Wall and the Lake District, which are both only half an hour’s drive. Alston has a golf course and during the winter months a ski slope.

Reviews

Great location for exploring the North East, especially hadrian's wall. Very comfortable for our family of four. Owners live next door and very helpful. Close enough to walk into town but wonderful countryside spot in the middle of farmland. Solar panel hot water heating worked really well - didn't need to top up with the immersion heater at all despite it not being particularly sunny. Loved the wood burning stove
