St Aidan’s cottage is part of the Bamburgh First collection of 17 different dog friendly houses and cottages under the same ownership with a consistent quality of interior design and attention to detail throughout. The interiors are professionally designed to suit each individual dwelling and the owner has tried to think of everything that will enhance the stay of every guest.
St Aidan’s sleeps up to 6 guests over two floors and has two beautiful travertine bathrooms and a well equipped kitchen that even has a NutriBullet and a pressure cooker. Outside there is a Weber barbecue.
This charming sandstone detached cottage in the quiet rural hamlet of Dukesfield, nestles in fields only a short drive or 20 minute walk to the seaside village of Bamburgh, where the Castle towers over the village green to the west and miles of sandy beaches to the North. Bamburgh was recently a finalist in Channel 4’s UK’s Top Village competition. There you will find a lovely selection of shops, pubs, restaurants, tea houses and cafes as well as one of the most scenic golf clubs in Britain which as a guest of Bamburgh First you can play for free any day if there isn’t a competition on. Free games of Tennis underneath the castle on the village green are also provided to guests of Bamburgh First along with membership and discounted access to a gym and leisure club is also provided.
All the cottages at Dukesfield are usually rented individually by people seeking a tranquil intimate spot to spend with friends and loved ones but sometimes groups of friends rent more than one or even all the cottages for family gatherings, significant birthdays, golf and hen parties.
There is a paddocked area for kids, adults and dogs to run around in and maybe kick a football and there is a shared tennis court and hot tub.
Guests also have access to the Gathering Place which is a renovated large detached building in the courtyard in which there is a Wii and a table tennis table. This space can also be used for dinner parties or barbecues of up to 24 people with perhaps dishes being provided by friends or relatives in different cottages. It’s a lovely way to have an inexpensive special dinner party with everyone sharing the work.
Netflix is included in all Bamburgh First properties as is a portable Bose Bluetooth speaker, easy lighting fire logs and a box of games that include Scrabble, Cluedo and Monopoly. The owner has also provided personal touches such as a sweetie tin, a bottle of wine, a voucher for a pound of the famous Bamburgh Banger sausages and his own list of the top 21 things to do whilst spending a week in the area.
The market town of Alnwick with its historic (Hogwarts) Castle, Alnwick Gardens and the famous Barter Books, is 20 minutes away by car. The Holy Island of Lindisfarne is 25 minutes to the North, and the Cheviot Hills 20 minutes to the West. Seahouses with its boat trips to the Farnes is 15 minutes away, and it’s also easy to reach all the pretty fishing towns on the coastline, Craster (home of the Kipper), Newton by the Sea, Alnmouth and Amble. Great pubs abound in this area. Hadrian’s wall is less than two hours to the South.

The owner wanted to create accommodation as beautiful as the setting, and each house in the collection has been decorated by a professional interior designer.
Lovely part of the country, beautiful beaches and lots of walks. Dog friendly cottage so our 3 dogs could join us which made our holiday.
