If you are in the Northumberland area this June, there is plenty going on which should keep you busy. Whether you are looking for free activities or don’t mind splashing out, there is plenty to explore in this fantastic county.  This includes the following:

Summer’s Evening Viewing at Alnwick Castle – On June 7th you can experience a glass of fizz and a look around Alnwick’s beautiful gardens. The experience is free but you’ll have to get in there early!

Music - If you are a music fan, you will be delighted to know that on the 8th June concert guitarist and composer Richard Durrant is playing as part of his Stringhenge album launch. Richard will cycle between each concert where he will play his own music as well as music by JS Bach. Durrant says, “I’m lucky to be playing what I believe to be the world’s most beautiful concert guitar. It was made from 5,000 year old English Oak by the Lincolnshire Luthier Gary Southwell and the instrument feels like a sacred object.  You will also hear my four string tenor guitar (the Uffington Tenor by Ian Chisholm) and a ukulele set aside purely for the music of JS Bach”.

Miner’s Picnic – On 9th June you can enjoy a real family day out at Woodhorn museum. Pack your own picnic and take the kids out for a great day, even if it’s raining. The programme is as follows:

  • 10.00am – 5.00pm- Picnic Market, pop-up art workshops, street theatre and more
  • 11.00am- Miners’ Memorial Service and Wreath Laying
  • 11.45 - Brass Marras featuring 4 local brass bands joined by young players from South East Northumberland
