If you are staying in Northumberland this June and love your history, you may be interested to hear of a new package available and back by popular demand. It is a new historical tour package that includes a short camping stay and two historical guided walks. For anyone who likes to hear about the history of Hadrian’s Wall, and those who enjoy something a bit more adventurous and outdoorsy, then this would be the perfect trip this month:

Tour 1: Hadrian’s Wall (26th June): This includes a 5 mile walk along the most spectacular part of the Wall with local Historian Peter Carney The walk is from Steel Rigg - Sycamore Gap - Housesteads - Vindolanda. The guide then takes you around Vindolanda, the largest and most impressive Roman fort on the Wall. Vindolanda was a Roman auxiliary fort just south of Hadrian's Wall and excavations of the site show it was under Roman occupation from roughly 85 AD to 370 AD.

Tour 2: Old Newcastle (28th June): This journey is to the end of Hadrian’s Wall, stopping at Segedenum Roman Fort for morning coffee and then moving to the Quayside to start a walking tour. Sights include the Castle Keep with a view of the Tyne, City Wall, Cathedral and the historical heart of the city - Grey Street to Grainger Town. This is great for people who love to go shopping as you can also take a chance to visit the Victorian indoor market. You can pick up a souvenir for loved ones back home!

At the centre of the event are 3 trails (art, design or innovation) - any of which you can join if you want to and would be great to check out.

To book the package, you can go onto the Bellingham Site website. The price for this is around £90 per adult, based on 2 sharing a pitch for 4 nights. You can contact the site direct to enquire/book on 01434 220175.

While in Northumberland after this camping historical walking package experience, why not stay in a luxury cottage to make the most of the week you are there. Grace Darling Holiday Cottages offer stunning views and great locations with a full range of facilities. You can stay in the cottage and enjoy other day trips throughout Northumberland.
