Northumberland Events this Month
Can we talk about Spring yet? We are all eagerly awaiting warmer days, so that we can finally be rid of this cold winter. Well, it seems that it is not far away now, and there are lots of events going on throughout the next month or two which you might enjoy in Northumberland if you are taking a break there this Spring:
Step Into Spring - February Half Term - The Visitor Centre, Heatherslaw
If you have the kids with you, why not come along for a train ride with the Light Railway. You will have a lot of fun as a family, where you can discover the snowdrop walks, explore the 'dough zone' at Heatherslaw Mill, or even learn about Victorian times in the Lady Waterford Hall. If you want to try a new activity, then make sure you make your visit on Wednesday 20th February, because you can find a 'come and try' canoeing session from1.30-3.30pm, suitable for beginners upwards. You can also visit on Thursday 21st February if you want to try out some guided cycling at Ford Village Cycle Hire – but remember to book first!
Chillingham Castle Ghost Hunt - Chillingham Castle
If you like something a little bit different, and you are staying near Chillingham at the start of March, then why not take part in an investigation exploring the supernatural activity at one of the most haunted castles in the country? You will learn about some of the people who lived here, along with some mysteries and stories of the castle. You can explore the infamous Edward I Room, or the Torture Chamber to try and find Lady Grey, one of the most popular ghost sightings here. This is not suitable for under 18s though, so if you have young kids, this isn’t for them. The price is £40 a ticket and it takes place on 2nd March.
Children's Concert: Revolting Rhymes and Marvellous Music - St Michael's Church, Alnwick
This one is for the children! Roald Dahl’s versions of ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ ‘The Three Little Pigs’ and Three ‘Dirty Beast’ poems are performed here with music by Paul Patterson and Martin Butler. Your children will love the different voices of the characters in this charming read-aloud event.
Kielder 4x4 Safari - Kielder
For £65 a ticket, you can enjoy a day of guided trail blazing in the heart of Kielder and Wark Forests – this is all in aid of raising money for Northumberland National Park Mountain Rescue Team. You will even get to drive your own 4x4 vehicle through some tracks in the forest. It is great fun, and something which you will remember for a lifetime!
A Day of Mindfulness - Hauxley Wildlife Discovery Centre - Low Hauxley
Want something a little less adventurous, but more restful? How about mindfulness meditation, a calming and energising day led by Michael Atkinson, Director of School of Mindfulness. Visit www.schoolofmindfulness.co.uk for more information. The price is £40 per person and this takes place on 30th March.
If you plan to stay in the region this Spring, why not book a luxury cottage with Grace Darling Holidays, who can cater for any group size, including couples or larger families. Make sure you book in advance, though, as accommodation fills up fast!
