Mother’s Day 2017 – Treat Mum to a Concert This Year

For Mother’s Day this year, why not try something a little different for your mum on her special day and treat her to a gig in one of the venues located around the North-East of England?

If you fancy a change from presenting your mum with the usual over-priced bouquet and chocolates, maybe she’d appreciate the unexpected on Sunday March 26th 2017 instead.

Here are some ideas that are guaranteed to keep her on her toes this Mother’s Day. You could even tie an event in with a surprise weekend getaway in Northumberland, some late availability accommodation may still be available.

  • Rick Astley

Newcastle City Hall

Northumberland Rd, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 8SF

Fans of the 51-year-old comeback kid are watching his star on the rise once more - 30 years on from the success of Brit Award-winner ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ first time around. And, following Astley’s retirement and resurgence, his album 50 last year sent him rocking back to where he belongs at number 1 in the charts. The singer-songwriter’s 7pm city date is set for the Friday before Mother’s Day and could be just the thing to win your mam’s heart.

  • Russell Howard

Metro Radio Arena

Arena Way, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE4 7NA

If your mam likes a laugh, you could start her smiling with a ticket to this stand-up star’s latest comedy gig. Fresh from Russell Howard’s Good News, his Round the World Tour is Howard’s first return to the live stage in three years. And ticket demand for his biggest global tour to date has been huge. Friday, March 24 is an additional date.

Boulevard

3-9 Churchill St, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 4HF

The Newcastle club is offering a Mother’s Day Special event on the day itself which promises to be “not your standard afternoon tea”. The 4.30pm-7.30pm fun begins with a welcome cocktail before guests take a seat for the Spring Show. There’s table service and that includes afternoon tea.

  • Marti Pellow

Sage Gateshead

St Mary's Square, Gateshead Quays, Gateshead, NE8 2JR

Love is always around when Marti is in town to wow the ladies. The former Wet Wet Wet star turned solo success, who has shimmied his way into musical theatre in recent years, is this time showcasing a mixed bag of hits. Mums will be Wishing I Was Lucky so you could make her day with a ticket on his March 24 gig in Hall One at 7.30pm which will see him perform a variety of material including Wet favourites, original solo material, musical numbers and new album tracks.

  • Whitney Queen of the Night

Sunderland Empire

High Street West, Sunderland, SR1 3EX

Hot-footing in north from London comes West End star Rebecca Freckleton. She’ll be in the region at 7.30pm on March 30 with a powerhouse performance featuring late great star’s classic hits. Three decades of Houston’s musical legacy will be condensed into two hours and making your mam’s day will be the likes of ‘I Wanna Dance with Somebody’, ‘One Moment in Time’, ‘Saving All My Love’ and that show-stopper theme of The Bodyguard ‘I Will Always Love You’.

  • Craig David

Metro Radio Arena

Arena Way, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE4 7NA

Another comeback star, David will be stopping off on his Following My Intuition Tour - named after the album he’ll have out in September - on the Wednesday after Mother’s Day. His biggest UK arena tour in 15 years will showcase the Brit and Grammy Award-nominee’s new songs alongside some of the classics which initially brought him to fame. Fans can watch him prove he’s Born to Do It all over again at 7.30pm on March 29.
