Event announcement: Hadrian’s Wall to host BBC Music Day

The entire length of Hadrian’s Wall in Northumberland will play host to the inaugural BBC Music Day, which is to be held on Friday 5 June.

The aim of the event is to bring people of all ages and communities together through a mutual love

of music. Beginning at first light, the BBC Music Day is expected to last 14 hours with participants

relaying music from one to another to create the ‘Hadrian’s Wall of Sound’. The musical journey will

start at West Cumbria and finish in North Tyneside 73 miles on.

A star studded event

Many UK towns and cities will be involved in the nationwide music celebration, with a number of

celebrities acting as the BBC Music Day Ambassadors. They include Tom Jones, Lulu, Ricky Wilson,

Ricky Ross, Rae Morris, George Ezra, Mark Ronson, Shlomo, Kanika Kapoor, Only Men Aloud’s Tim

Rhys Evans, and conductor Charles Hazlewood.

For those who wish to bear witness this incredible event live from Hadrian’s Wall or are interested in

the potential to meet a celebrity or two, presenter Petroc Trelawny will be at Birdoswald Roman Fort

at Gilsland on the Northumberland-Cumbria border. He will be joined by BBC singers who are set to

perform music with local connections.

More than just a chance to participate in a special community event, those who make the trip will

get to enjoy fantastic scenery amongst one of the most stunning stretches of this world heritage site.

Anyone else wanting to enjoy the performance from the comfort of their couch can tune into BBC

One’s The One Show, which will be broadcasting live from the Music Day event in Glasgow.
