If you relish the Christmas season, then you’ll delight in the Christmas Markets taking place all over Northumberland this year. There is so much to see and do, with many traditional, log cabin stalls selling chestnuts, unique gift ideas, frankfurters and mulled wine. You can spend a few hours enjoying the festive atmosphere and maybe even cosying up with a hot chocolate. Here are just a few of the Christmas markets taking place in Northumberland this year:
Hexham Christmas Market and Abbey Fair
This takes place on Friday 7th December, 2pm-7pm (Market only) and Saturday 8th December, 9am-3pm (Market and Abbey Fair.) This is a fantastic event where you can visit around 70 stalls. Beaumont Street is lined with colourful stalls, against the backdrop of the Abbey, making it feel really festive and beautiful. You may also see Santa's reindeer in the park.
Wooler Farmers' Market and Christmas lights switch on
If you are near Wooler at the start of December, you may want to visit its Christmas Farmers' Market and Christmas lights switch on, which takes place on Sunday Dec 2. The market runs from 12pm until 3pm in the bus station off the High Street. Also, make sure you pop by the Cheviot Centre for a free family Christmas film at 2.30pm, followed by the arrival of Santa and the switching on of the lights at 4.30pm. A great day out!
Hay Farm Heavy Horse Centres Christmas Fayre
Hay Farm is transformed in time for Christmas, ready to welcome Father Christmas on his sleigh. If you have kids, you’ll love the fact that they can jump aboard his Christmas Carriage and take a short ride. As for the mums and dads, there is a traditional market with stalls packed with wonderful locally produced goodies. You can also visit the horses in the Christmas Stables where the animals are waiting to greet visitors. How about giving them a carrot? You will find some great food here, including freshly made mince pies and special cakes. The market is free, but they do ask for a donation as this is a fundraising event for the Centre.
Ellingham Hall Christmas Fair 2018
On the 2nd December you can visit the magnificent Ellingham Hall, where you will be able to enjoy the Christmas Fair in all its glory! You can browse a range of stalls offering gifts, crafts and handmade food all at great prices. Children can take part in the Elves craft activity workshop and enjoy a visit to Father Christmas. This is a great day out for all the family!
Corbridge Christmas Market by St Andrews Church
Are you staying near Corbridge this December? If so, you can enjoy some unique market stalls, as well as late night shopping, homemade street food, entertainment and much more. You can also partake in some carol singing! You will be able to have your picture taken next to over 80 festive trees filling St Andrew’s Church, which truly look spectacular!
