Now Valentine’s Day has been and gone, it’s safe to say that all attention is no focused on that special lady in your life, you’re Mum.
Mother’s day this year is on Sunday 6th March so that doesn’t leave you much time to think about what you can do to show your mum, or any other significant lady you hold in your heart, just how special they really are.
Northumberland in the North East of England has a lot to offer for Mother’s day this year, and what better place to spend it than in an area of outstanding natural beauty.
Below are some ideas for what to do whether it is just you and your mum or the whole family.
• Mother’s Day Lunch at Matfen Hall
Treat Mum to a fine dining three course lunch at The Library Restaurant. Tables need to be booked in advance for seating between 12:30pm and 3:30pm. Prices are £25.95 per adult, including a small gift for mothers, and £14.95 per child.
• Mother’s Day Daffodil Picking at The Alnwick Garden
This is a unique way to give flowers this year. Visit The Alnwick Garden where there are lots of flowers for Mum to enjoy and pick her a beautiful bouquet of daffodils to take home.
• Mother’s Day at Langley Castle
Show your love and affection for your Mum this year by treating her to a special luncheon at the magnificent Langley Castle. The Luncheon will include a glass of prosecco on arrival and a floral gift for each ‘Mum’
• Mother’s Day Events at the National Trust Venues
Why not treat your mum to a day out at one of the National Trust properties in Northumberland such as Cragside House and Gardens and Wallington Hall.
These venues are suitable for families to spend some quality time together in beautiful surroundings and everyone can join in with special Mother’s Day events.
See a living history presentation and discover some of the parenting practices and Mother’s cures from the past. Follow this with some seasonal baking and planting and create a posy of spring flowers for Mum to take home. There are also craft workshops where the children can make Mother’s Day Cards and a unique gift to celebrate the day.
End your day with a traditional afternoon tea and a relaxing stroll around one of the National Trust Gardens. • A Weekend Break
If you are still unsure of what to get your mum for Mother’s Day, Grace Darling Holidays still has some late availability on their beautiful cottages for Mother’s Day weekend. What a wonderful, thoughtful gift for you to treat her with.
There a number of cottages in Northumberland, either in quaint villages or in prime locations around the county. There are plenty of attractions to explore near these holiday cottages too such as The Grace Darling Museum, Hadrian’s Wall, Castles, beaches and woodlands. There is more than enough to keep Mum occupied for a few days and make the weekend is all about her.
