What’s great about Northumberland is that there’s so many different restaurants you can enjoy there. Whether you are into Indian food, sushi, seafood or burgers, Northumberland can provide it all. However, if you are into traditional food, then Northumberland can also provide everything you need. Here, we look at some of the top restaurants or pubs which cook fantastic, British, traditional and homely food:

Battlesteads - Traditional restaurant in Hexham

This place is described as “In a traditional stone building, this refined hotel is 6.6 miles from Chesters Roman Fort on Hadrian's Wall, and 15 miles from Kielder Water. It has an upscale restaurant serving contemporary British cuisine, an observatory, a kitchen garden, and a traditional bar.”

The Percy Arms - British, Traditional restaurant in Chatton

The Percy Arms is a great place to head to if you want traditional, home cooked and delicious food. They describe themselves as offering “an extensive combination of seasonal, locally sourced produce presenting everything from hearty soups with homemade breads, appetizing meat and fish planks, homemade burgers and sandwiches and for the heartier appetite, best quality steaks, traditional beer battered Fish & Chips and warming Shepherd’s Pie. In short, something for everyone.”

The Rat Inn - British, Traditional restaurant in Hexham

This restaurant loves their local fresh produce and provides a charming setting for a family meal if you are in the area. They have a great range of ales as well as wine. One reviewer said, “We visited in January. We ate from the fixed price menu which was exceptional value for food of this quality. A perfectly seasoned house terrine of the day(rabbit local) with house spiced chutney and some wonderful homemade focaccia. For my main course I opted for the seabass which was perfectly cooked with some warming spiced lentils. Good dessert to finish a lovely rich chocolate brownie with homemade ice cream. The welcome was warm but not overly fussy our waitress recommended a lovely chianti from the specials board which was keenly priced. This is a real find for us our first visit but we'll definitely be back.”
