When holidaying in Northumberland there's an array of exciting adventure centres with a wide variety of activities to keep you and the kids amused. Whether you're into skiing or horse riding, it’s all available at these reputable centres.
To start with there's The Bike Place in Kielder. They operate from two different locations…Kielder Village and Kielder Waterside. They hire out bikes to all ages prices ranging from £10 for two hours for kids, and £15 for adults up to £20 and £25 for all day hire. There are a range of cycling routes to choose from these are graded according to their difficulty from a forest road which is suitable for all abilities, right up to extreme for the most skilled riders. Kielder waterside is recommended as a good route for those cycling with children.
For kids of all ages who love dinosaurs there's the Dinosaur Encounter at Highly Gate Garden Centre in Morpeth. This is a twelve hole outdoor adventure golf course that recreates the Jurassic era by using life size moving and roaring dinosaurs. The course is easy for kids to play and is open all year round. It's worth phoning ahead if the weather is awful as terrible conditions mean the park has to close. Prices start at £3 for under 4’s. Family tickets are available at £18 (max two adults).
If you fancy something a bit more adventurous why not head to Merlin Brae Water Ski Club. There are all sorts of activities available for members and non members alike and all abilities of skiers and wake-boarders too. Coaching is available for beginners, recreational water skiing, slalom, trick and jump skiing, and wake-boarding too. All equipment hire including wet suits and buoyancy aids is included in the price so all you need is your cozzie, and a towel! Prices for visitors are £20 for an adult session and £16 for students, oaps and juniors (under 16).
Silksworth Sport Complex and Ski Slope is as it sounds, an action packed adventure zone. From fishing and bowling, to BMXing and skateboarding, there's plenty to keep you occupied. The complex also has three dry ski slopes with two nursery slopes for the little ones or those new to the sport. Tuition is available for all abilities with highly qualified instructors at hand to help you develop your skills. An extensive price list detailing all activities is available online.
Finally, Kimmerston Riding centre is renowned as one of the best centres in the area. It's a family run business that's been open for over 30 years. Situated at Kimmertston near the Cheviot Hills it offers treks through some of the most beautiful countryside in the north of England. The experienced instructors are skilled at selecting just the right horse to suit your individual ability. Packages available for newby and experienced riders include beach rides to the Holy Isle, treks over the moors and through streams and woods. Call ahead to book and to double check weather conditions.
