Local Attractions Northumberland

All of our holiday cottages are dotted along the North Northumbrian coastline and set amid miles of golden sandy beaches, rolling hills, rugged moorland and friendly little market towns. All of our self catering cottages are close to local amenities and shopping facilities.

Beaches

• Alnmouth has Northumberland's oldest port with a pretty beach and golden sands running north from the estuary.

• Bamburgh is home to miles and miles of empty, sandy beaches stretching from north and south.

• Beadnell has a golden beach which is overlooked by dunes. It is also home to the only west facing harbour along the East Coast.

• Druridge Bay is a long, gently curving sandy beach.

• Embleton Bay overlooks the dramatic ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle and is reached through the villages of Embleton and Low Newton. It's a quiet sandy bay.

• St Aidan's Beach, Seahouses is a rural seaside award winner. A lovely sandy beach that stretches out to Bamburgh to the north and to the south forms rugged rocks emerging from the sea.

Bird Watching

Budle Bay is revered throughout England as one of the most visited areas of Northumberland for its diverse and spectacular bird population. The bay is the southern part of the Lindisfarne National Nature Reserve where the birds are protected by a no shooting law which makes it attractive to many birds hunted in other parts of the region.

Castles

• Bamburgh Castle is magnificent on the inside and outside. Remnants of what experts believe could be an ancient church have recently been found in a chance discovery at Bamburgh Castle.

• Alnwick Castle is the Harry Potter castle.

• Lindisfarne Castle is beautiful and of significant religious importance.

Fishing

There are regular fishing boat trips from Seahouses. You have to book well in advance but they are great fun. Telephone 01665 720 308.

Golf

• Seahouses Golf Course is a traditional flat links course which boast two of the most prestigious par threes in the North of England. Seahouses Gold Course offers our visitors a £4 discount on the standard green fee of £20. Tel 01665 720 794.

• Bamburgh Castle Golf Club has been called the most beautiful course in Britain, if not the world. It's a hilltop links with staggering views. They always make non-members welcome unless there is a competition which is usually a Saturday during the summer between 8am and 5pm.

• Goswick Golf Club is an outstanding links course which has been selected to host the open championship for the next five years. It's also a very traditional course. Telephone 01289 387 256.

• Alnmouth Golf Club overlooks the splendours of both Foxton and Alnmouth Bay on the Northumberland coastline in a designated area of outstanding natural beauty. It is widely regarded as one of the finest golf courses in the North East of England.

Horse Riding

There is an excellent local riding school at Kimmerston. They do one hour treks, breathtaking beach rides on Holy Island and hill rides through the Cheviots. Telephone number 01668 216 283. Ask for Jane.

Tennis

There is a court on the village green of Bamburgh. Ask for a key from the reception of The Victoria Hotel (£5 key deposit). There are also courts in Seahouses. The Seahouses number is 01665 721 868.

Squash

Alnwick Squash club is a private members club which has two squash courts, one glass back and one traditional court, both with extensive viewing facilities. The club welcomes juniors and offers a wide range of facilities including a gym and salon.
