Description

Hay Barn cottage is part of the Bamburgh First collection of 17 different dog friendly houses and cottages under the same ownership with a consistent quality of interior design and attention to detail throughout. The interiors are professionally designed to suit each individual dwelling and the owner has tried to think of everything that will enhance the stay of every guest.

A recent addition to this house is a spacious conservatory sitting and dining area with a lovely open outlook onto the fields and the hills beyond.

This charming converted sandstone stable is part of the quiet rural hamlet of Dukesfield, which nestles in fields only a short drive or 20 minute walk to the seaside village of Bamburgh. Hay Barn sleeps up to 4 guests, has a lovely sitting room with a log burner, a well equipped kitchen that even has a NutriBullet and pressure cooker, 2 travertine bathrooms, a third WC and a back door onto the garden and fields beyond.

Netflix is included in all Bamburgh First properties as is a portable Bose Bluetooth speaker easy lighting fire logs and a box of games that include Scrabble, Cluedo and Monopoly. The owner has also provided personal touches such as a hand selected welcome pack, a voucher for a pound of the famous Bamburgh Banger sausages and his own list of the top 21 things to do whilst spending a week in the area.

All the cottages at Dukesfield are usually rented individually by guests seeking a tranquil intimate space to spend with friends and loved ones but sometimes groups of friends rent more than one or even all the cottages for family gatherings, significant birthdays, golf parties and hen parties. Guests also have access to the Gathering Place which is a renovated large detached old farm building in the courtyard in which there is a Wii and a table tennis table.  This space can also be used for dinner parties of up to 24 people with perhaps different dishes being provided by friends or relatives in different cottages.  It’s a lovely way to have an inexpensive special dinner party with everyone sharing the work.

Each cottage has its own patio area and Weber barbecue. There is a paddocked area for kids, adults and dogs to run around in and maybe kick a football and there is a shared tennis court, newly built gym with a treadmill, an elliptical trainer, weight bench and weights, an exercise bike and other sporting paraphernalia and hot tub.

Dukesfield is situated a mile from the Budle Bay bird sanctuary and a five mile drive or 20 minute walk from the historic seaside village of Bamburgh where the famous castle towers over miles of sandy beaches to the North and the village green to the West. Bamburgh was a finalist in Channel 4’s UK’s Top Village competition. There you will find a lovely selection of shops, pubs, restaurants, tea houses and cafes as well as one of the most scenic golf clubs in Britain. Guests of Bamburgh First can claim up to two free rounds of golf per property booked at Bamburgh Castle Golf Club - please see below for more information. Free games of Tennis underneath the castle on the village green are available, as well as access to leisure club facilities .

The market town of Alnwick with its historic Castle, Alnwick Gardens and the famous Barter Books, is 20 minutes away by car. The Holy Island of Lindisfarne is 25 minutes to the North, and the Cheviot Hills and Northumberland National Park 20 minutes to the West. Seahouses with its boat trips to the Farnes is 15 minutes away.  Hadrian’s Wall is just under two hours south. It’s also easy to reach, with a short drive, all the pretty fishing towns on the coastline, including Craster (home of the Kipper), Newton by the Sea, Alnmouth and Amble with their lovely marinas. Great pubs abound in this area.  Shop: 1.4 miles Pub: 1.0 miles

Reviews

Fabulous converted barn with all mod cons . The kitchen was small but very well fitted out . Log burning stove with added bonus of having a log store outside . Fabulous conservatory looking out at open fields , hot tub and Perspex pods . The hot tub was amazing and we got plenty of use out of it , even in cold wet early March ! The bed was very comfortable and the welcome pack was lovely with some really useful and delicious products , including a voucher for a pound of Bamburgh sausages ! Location was just a few minutes drive to Bamburgh castle and beach .
